CURRENT PROJECT: THE MAGIC MAN
On the day Bluesy Figwater is born in Sparkleberry, South Carolina, a beautiful Creole girl named Sister is born in the Louisiana bayou, and an epic battle already two generations old begins again.
Sister Devoe wants Bluesy’s magic, and she’s been after it—and him—her entire life. Beautiful, powerful, curvaceous and Creole, Sister is a hard witch to refuse, and there is a time when Bluesy can’t resist her persuasive powers. Then, when he is forced to see the truth of her, Sister breaks Bluesy’s innocent heart. Now, Sister and Bluesy are battling it out magic-style, the entire population of Bluesy’s idyllic home town hanging in the balance.
The citizens of Sparkleberry and a bizarre cast of magical characters—including vampires, clones, an evil dentist who looks like Omar Sharif, shapeshifters, healers, a powerful tribal chief, a demon disguised as a grandmother, a blues-loving alligator named Charlie, a Shelby Mustang who strays from her garage, a businessman reduced to his true nature, and the Devil himself—are all unwittingly drawn in to the fight as Sister and Bluesy vie for the souls of ordinary folks like Zelma Mae Harper (who has loved Bluesy since they were children) and the kids of Sparkleberry, who have befriended the strange old man who plays a blues trumpet to rival ol' Satchmo’s—the one they call the Magic Man.
